About The Artist

Senior Artist James Molloy

delivers high-octane looks from the North of England via Hong Kong, SAR of China. His theatrical approach favours strong contours and bright colours. No wonder then that his lifelong hero is Alexander McQueen, whose shows he worked on in the mid-noughties. Drawing on eastern and western influences, Molloy creates editorial looks for men and women but it is the girls of Hong Kong with their sophisticated makeup tastes who continue to provide him with a daily dose of inspiration. Here he explains more about his stellar career.

New Romantic

“I grew up during the 80s and was surrounded by images of the icons of the day like Boy George and Cyndi Lauper who both wore amazing makeup. I remember drawing big red lips on the cover of my Banarama album in felt-tip pen; I thought the girls looked much cooler like that!”

Eastern Promise

“I love Asia and fell in love with Seoul from my very first visit; it’s so fast paced and never seems to stop. There you need some durable, multipurpose products like Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, which can be used on little problem areas or for an all-over, even skin tone. Next, I would recommend Clear Brow Set, I like a well-groomed brow and Lightful Softening Lotion, which is packed with vitamin C.”

The McQueen Years

“Working backstage at any of the Alexander McQueen shows was always incredible; you could feel that a true moment in fashion history was happening. My favourite still has to be the F/W 2006 show and seeing the hologram of Kate Moss appear in the pyramid. Watching it still gives me goose bumps.”
