About The Artist

MICKEY CONTRACTOR

Bollywood makeup artist Mickey Contractor is the one-man glamour machine bringing Indian beauty trends to the international stage. His subtle contouring and sumptuous palette has won him fans across the world. From Mumbai where he lives with his wife and two children, he tells us about his eventful career, from visiting the M·A·C counter by chance to launching his own line of products – and it’s not all about lashes and lips. “I like to keep my beard trimmed and moisturized,” he tells us. “Use Fix+ to refresh the skin.” So there you have it.

All That Glitters

“My first makeup-related memory is working with the legendary Bollywood actress, Helen. She was way ahead of her times in terms of doing her makeup and hair, and really liked to experiment with her looks, being one of the first to introduce glitter, frost, lashes and feathers in Bollywood. My first M·A·C-related memory was entering a store in Canada. I was totally awestruck, not just by the products, but also by the Artists. The first thing I ever bought from the M·A·C store was lipstick – three lipsticks: Malt, Twig and Marrakesh.”

Indian Summers

“Keeping in mind the Indian weather conditions, I would always recommend a pressed powder to keep your skin looking mat and oil-free. Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation has been an all-time favourite amongst a lot of Indian customers. If I were stuck on a desert island so to speak, I would definitely take Bulk Wipes, Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF 50 and Lip Conditioner with me. Actually, Wipes and 7 Lash are the two products that people most often steal! Makeup in India has always focused on eyes, with minimal foundation, and strong liners or smoky eyes. Eye Kohl defines makeup in India no matter what season, but recently there has been a trend to highlight brightly done lips in shades of Ruby Woo and So Chaud.”

Made by Mickey

“One of the greatest moments in my career was to conceive of the M·A·C Mickey Contractor Collection. From the initial stage of discussing it, to mixing different shades, to testing it on different skin tones and finally getting the photo shoot for the visuals…it was nothing short of a high. The icing on the cake was when the collection was launched and I saw the appreciation it received from the customers and M·A·C Artists all over the world. After all that, the party was a great climax as all my well-wishers and colleagues gathered among the Bollywood glitterati to celebrate my success. M·A·C did it for me and I am eternally grateful.”
